bone & tissue days Berlin – Focus on W&H technology

September 2014 saw around 800 leading periodontists, implantologists and oral surgeons from over 50 countries come together to attend the bone & tissue days in the Hotel InterContinental in Berlin. An exciting array of presentations focused on the latest findings and trends in the field of bone and tissue regeneration, risk factors for peri-implantitis and periodontitis as well as preclinical and clinical research.

Workshops with surgical unit Piezomed

In addition to attending the presentations, 350 attendees also seized the opportunity to discover the latest technologies and more efficient treatment approaches in 18 specialized workshops. As a Gold Sponsor of this year’s bone & tissue days, W&H demonstrated the main features in the field of modern piezo technology. Under the careful supervision of Dr. med. dent. Mario Kirste MSc (Frankfurt (Oder), Germany) and Dr. med. dent. Stavros Pelekanos (Athens, Greece) and with the aid of live demonstrations, the visitors were able to test the W&H Piezomed surgical device for themselves and see how it is used in practice.

Under the specialist supervision of Dr. med. dent. Mario Kirste MSc (l.) and Dr. med. dent. Stavros Pelekanos, the workshop participants had the chance to try out different surgical applications and discover the benefits of the Piezomed surgical device at the same time.

In addition to the splitting and augmentation of bone, the use of piezo surgery in combination with allotransplants in implant and sinus surgery was also a feature of the training contents of the W&H workshops. Further highlights of the surgical device included patented automatic instrument detection, which offers a high degree of operating safety, the unique cooling concept at the working attachment and the three operating modes – Power, Basic, Smooth –, which support the surgeon's personal working preferences.

Trends in oral surgery and implantology

With 40 workshop participants, W&H was able to mark the event down as an extraordinary success. Specific insights into the world of piezo technology made it possible in the scope of this year's bone & tissue days to demonstrate current trends in oral surgery and implantology and bring international experts together.

The popularity of piezo technology has been increasing in maxillofacial surgery and implantology for more than a decade. The bone & tissue days offered plenty of opportunity to get to know this modern drive technology.

However, the high-quality W&H surgical devices were not only employed in our own workshops in the three-day event in Berlin: dental experts also relied on innovative W&H technology in a whole range of other events. In addition to the Piezomed and Implantmed surgical instruments, a wide range of other W&H products from the surgical sector were also used.

Piezo technology allows W&H to use ultrasound technology for even the most complex tasks in bone surgery. Experts from around the world had the chance in Berlin to perform complex procedures themselves and get to know the innovative W&H product.
