Red Dot Award: W&H scores highly with new Implantmed design

Each year, the “Red Dot Design Award” is presented to the most original and best examples of design and innovation. In early April 2017, after days of assessing thousands of products from all over the world, the highly qualified panel of judges, comprising 40 internationally renowned experts, decided to present W&H with the “Red Dot” award for the high design quality of one of its products.

The Implantmed drive unit was specially designed for use in dental implantology by W&H’s in-house design team. Its sleek design, clean lines and top-quality materials not only satisfy all the hygienic requirements of dental practices but also fulfil the dentist’s high design requirements for contemporary practice equipment. In addition, the intuitive operating concept with its colour touch screen and wireless foot control offer optimal comfort and flexibility. “A modular concept was particularly important to us when developing the new Implantmed design. With add-on functions such as the W&H Osstell ISQ module for the measurement of implant stability, it is easy and flexible for the user to adapt the device to evolving requirements and new areas of application,” said Ing. Udo Hörmann, Team Design Leader.

The presentation of the “Red Dot Design Award” recognized the excellent design of the new Implantmed surgical drive unit. The judges’ reasoning: “The operating controls on the Implantmed drive unit focus on the bare essentials, thus creating a particularly clean appearance characterized by efficiency and clarity.” Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the Red Dot Award: “The Red Dot winners are pursuing the right design strategy. They have correctly realized that good design and economic success go hand in hand. The awards presented by the demanding Red Dot judges honour their high design quality and serve as a guide for a successful design strategy.”

W&H’s new Implantmed design impresses with sharp lines and elegant chic. Perfectly tailored to the requirements of oral surgery environments, the new Implantmed satisfies every requirement in terms of hygiene, comfort and functionality.

The “Red Dot Award: Product Design” design competition has its headquarters in Essen, Germany, and has deservedly built up an international reputation. This year, the competition received more than 5,500 entries from 54 nations. The panel of judges comprising independent designers, design professors and specialist journalists tested, discussed and evaluated every individual product before awarding an “Honourable Mention” for a well executed aspect of design work, the “Red Dot” for high design quality and the “Red Dot: Best of the Best” for trendsetting design.

The outstanding quality of its design earned the new Implantmed the highly coveted Red Dot Design Award.

About the Red Dot Design Award

With the aim of being able to judge the enormous variety in the field of design appropriately, the Red Dot Design Award is divided into three disciplines – Red Dot Award: Product Design, Red Dot Award: Communication Design and Red Dot Award: Design Concept. The Red Dot Award is organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen and is one of the world’s largest design competitions. A panel of judges met for the first time in 1955 to rate the best designs of the age. In the 1990s, Red Dot CEO Professor Dr Peter Zec developed the award’s name and brand. The highly coveted “Red Dot” has been an internationally renowned sign of outstanding design quality ever since.
