Advanced Periodontology Training with Dr. Jan Streblov and Tigon+

A specialized workshop on non-surgical periodontal therapy focused on cleaning was held at the 3DK dental clinic in Prague on 12th of October 2017. The team consisting of Dr. Jan Streblov (periodontologist and implantologist) and two dental hygienists – Martina Kulhánová and Veronika Týblová – provided valuable theoretical and practical training with curettes and ultrasonic scalers (Tigon+).

Bernhard Eder (W&H product manager for prophylaxis and periodontology) provided support for the hands-on training on pig jaws with artificially created periodontal defects and subgingival calculus.

The focus for the 18 dentists and dental hygienists was on practical use of Gracey curettes and the W&H Piezo tips for cleaning periodontal pockets for biofilm management in patients with severe periodontal disease. Dr. Streblov and his team prepared pig jaws, in advance, to simulate a single-root premolar and a multi-root molar periodontal defect involving furcation. After reflecting the soft tissues participants could see the result of their endeavour and therefore check out the treatment success for themselves.

Subgingival cleaning on the prepared pigs’ heads was the closest thing to the situation in a real patient and was considered to be a special highlight of the event. The 1P tip and the Tigon+ »Smooth« mode were rated as particularly positive features. This mode enables gentle, patient-friendly periodontal treatment as the power is automatically reduced in line with the pressure of the tip on the tooth. W&H uses this type of advanced training event to raise awareness of the W&H brand, especially in the prophylaxis and periodontology application segment.
