EN 13060 European standard for small steam sterilizers

The European standard specifies the performance requirements and test methods for small steam sterilizers. These are used for hygiene and infection control in general medical practices, dentistry facilities, and veterinary practices.
They are used for materials and equipment which are likely to come into contact with blood or body fluids.

Information to be provided to the user:
  • Reference to EN 13060 if compliance with this standard is claimed (declaration of conformity).
  • The user instruction which shall include:
    • description of the type of the available sterilization cycles
      (cycle table)
    • performance capabilities of each available sterilization (type of load
      it was designed for)
    • loading, including maximum
      weight per item
    • maximum total cycle time for
      the test loads
  • Complete WORKS TEST report
  • Electrical safety test report
According to the European Norm, there are three classes of cycle: B, S and N.
The Norm specifies different types
of load and the corresponding test methods.
According to the Norm, the WORKS TEST is the final test to be performed
on every sterilizer.
