En framgångsrik premiär av W&H:s kirurgiworkshops i Panama City

New perspectives with W&H technology for surgical treatment

With a series of events from 21st until 24th of August 2017, W&H provided excellent practical knowledge for surgical and dental treatment to experts from Panama and the whole of Latin America. The venue was the well-known Hard Rock Hotel of Panama City. Whilst the first W&H Surgical Sessions were in focus for the first three days, the events were concluded with the 32nd W&H Innovation Day on day 4. The aim of the lectures and workshops was to provide in-depth insights of the latest W&H technology to dental experts, surgeons and W&H partners.

“Our events offered an attractive platform for our W&H customers and partners from Panama as well as from the whole of Latin America. Through the interactive nature of these events, we clearly focused on new perspectives for the real working experience and first-hand knowledge from well-known key opinion leaders”, stated organizer Oliver Goetzendorff, W&H Area Manager for Latin America. Guided by two internationally renowned experts from Costa Rica and Mexico as well as the W&H product management, special focus was on exclusive experiences in implantology, piezo surgery and the field of restoration & prosthetics. In four days some 115 professionals attended the W&H sessions and obtained valuable tips and information for their daily clinical work.

Advanced surgical techniques for periodontics

The Surgical Sessions started on the 21st of August with a periodontics workshop. Around 15 periodontists from Panama used the opportunity to gain professional insights into effective surgical interventions. Under the guidance of Andreas Lette, W&H Product Manager for Oral Surgery and Implantology, the participants could learn how to use the new modular Implantmed and the new W&H Osstell ISQ module, an upgradeable feature for the measurement of implant stability. Special guest of the workshop was Dr. Jairo Vargas, a renowned dental expert from San José, Costa Rica. With his expertise in the field oral surgery and implantology he gave additional valuable input for the practical everyday work.

A glimpse of new products for W&H partners

The 22nd of August was dedicated to a partner training for around 25 W&H partners from the whole of Latin America, which was also an important component of the Surgical Sessions. In focus was the new Implantmed platform of W&H. Within the context of a product presentation Andreas Lette as well as Michael Pointner, W&H Product Portfolio Manager, introduced the new functionalities of the latest generation of the surgical device. To experience the feeling of which features give customers a real clinical benefit, the training participants had the chance to place demo implants into an artificial bone.

Special guest was Niclas Horal Schultz from W&H cooperation partner Osstell who was answering important questions on Osstell, the development of the company’s technologies as well as the ISQ (Implant Stability Quotient).
Further remarks on the topic of piezo technology, a comparison to other technologies and a Piezomed hands-on training rounded off day 2.

First-hand experience for minimally invasive procedures

With a clinical workshop for around 35 dental professionals and dental surgeons from Latin America, the Surgical Sessions continued on the 23rd of August. The first part of the session was been devoted to modern piezo technology. While Andreas Lette gave an overview about the advantages of this technology, Dr. Jairo Vargas was showing the piezo surgical device Piezomed from W&H in practical use.

The participants could practice tooth extractions, osteotomies, lateral sinus lift, bone block preparation and harvesting of bone chips. In an active dialogue with Dr. Jairo Vargas they obtained comprehensive knowledge in the field of piezo surgery applications.

Beside professional insights into piezo surgical interventions, the participants could also learn more about advanced implantology techniques as well as the combined use of the Piezomed and Implantmed from W&H in one treatment session.

Product innovations for the Panamanian market

During the 32nd W&H Innovation Day DDS Sergio Ariosto Hernández Delgado explained the advantages of the table top electric motor with speed increasing contra-angle handpieces.

Following up on the Surgical Sessions the event by W&H was concluded by the 32nd W&H Innovation Day on the 24th of August. Around 40 interested dental professionals from Panama used the opportunity to learn about the latest W&H product offerings from DDS Sergio Ariosto Hernández Delgado, an expert in R&P from Mexico.

In his presentation he took into account the local specifics and set a special focus on the table top electric motor with speed increasing contra-angle handpieces from W&H. He was showing different techniques for the preparation.

By experiencing live demonstrations, the participants could see for themselves the advantages of the W&H system. In lively discussions with the Mexican key opinion leader the participants gained valuable tips for use in everyday practice.

These exclusive W&H events provided a modern platform for optimal product solutions and techniques presented from users for users. “The right combination of product presentations and hands-on workshops was very well received by all participants. During the Surgical Sessions there was the chance to closely discuss individual issues relating to daily surgical challenges with renowned experts.

So our concept provided a real added value for the clinical work”, emphasized Oliver Goetzendorff. “The events provided an opportunity for us to position W&H as an important partner in the field of oral surgery and implantology on the Latin American market.
