The aim of this user review of the Synea TA-98 C LED was to test the light quality and intensity, colour rendering, handling and precision, and to describe the results with text and images.

User report by Franck DIEMER, France. I was very impressed with the new Alegra contra-angle handpiece WE-99 with generator technology. The daylight quality, relatively "white" LED light provides brighter illumination than a conventional halogen light, which helps to improve visibility and working comfort.

What high-speed instruments are currently available for the field of restoration and prosthetics? What are the current technological trends and what new developments are being worked on in terms of motor, chuck system, light, cooling or maintenance? The following information is intended to provide up-to-date advice on the crucial issue of what to consider when buying your instruments.

The effect of Prozone for improving the results of apicectomies was investigated in a study by V. E. Karapetian, J. Nickenig, M. Herrera, et al., at the Interdisciplinary Teaching Hospital for Oral Surgery and Hospital and Teaching Hospital for Oral, Orthodontic and Plastic Maxillofacial Surgery of the University of Cologne.

Proface provides a clinical aid in the detection of bacterially infected hard tooth tissue, particularly infected dentin. This way, caries excavation is more reliable than with traditional tools (probing the hardness, application of staining agents). The traditional tools only indirectly permit a conclusion on the bacterial infection of dentin.

The in vitro study was aimed to determine the effect of ozone on periodontopathogenic microorganisms. Ozone was generated for 6 s–2 × 24 s (corresponding to 0.56 mg–2 × 2.24 mg of ozone) against 23 mainly anaerobic periodontopathogenic species.

The effectiveness of Prozone, the ozone generator from W&H, was tested in a study carried out by Dr Kristjan Plätzer (university lecturer), Corina Dallinger (B. rer. nat./BSc Natural Sciences) and Prof. Barbara Krammer in the Department of Molecular Biology at Salzburg University in Austria. First study results have been published already in March 2010 in the Dental Tribune.

Ozone is a highly effective disinfectant and has already been used in dentistry for over 100 years. Endodontic treatments are known to be particularly complex and time-consuming. In only 50% of cases is it possible to mechanically prepare the entire root canal.

The effectiveness of dental treatment depends largely on how well the oral structures that are to be treated can be recognised. Delicate instruments with fibre optics and press button chuck systems are available to dentists in conservative/prosthetic dentistry today.

Vi har använt Assistina på vår klinik sedan augusti 2010. Innan använde vi oljespray för att underhålla våra instrument – vilket vi nu i efterhand tycker var mycket dyrt och tidskrävande. Vad är då fördelarna med Assistina? Den är väldigt enkel att hantera och säker att använda. Instrumentets spraytrummor blir rengjorda och oljade automatiskt och inget mer krävs av användaren. Det är en bra känsla att inte behöva oroa sig för att det har gjorts korrekt. Man märker på en gång effekten av Assistina för att instrumenten blir mer tystgående och smidiga och med Assistina förlänger man även instrumentens livslängd.

Senior Dental Assistant Tracey Carroll is one of a growing number of users of the W&H Assistina - regarded as the 'Rolls Royce' in handpiece cleaning and maintenance systems. Tracey has worked with Queensland practice, The Endodontic Group for 15 years and has seen many changes in that time in dental equipment.
