W&H records resounding success at the WorldSkills championships in Brazil with Alexander Wagner

8th place for Alexander Wagner at the WorldSkills

Earning the “Medallion for Excellence” diploma and an outstanding 8th place has put Alexander Wagner firmly in the top third of the world’s best “CNC machine operators” and allowed him to achieve his goal. This was yet another proud achievement for W&H and further confirmation of the family company’s value preservation concept aimed at offering young people a first-rate education for the long-term and at premium level.

As reigning Austrian national champion, Alexander Wagner took part in the WorldSkills vocational skills championships in São Paulo alongside some of the most talented craftsmen in the whole world. From 11th to 16th August, the event with around 1,200 participants from 59 nations was the talk of the international community. In his discipline “CNC machining”, Alexander Wagner and a further 25 contestants faced a demanding jury. Nevertheless, he skilfully mastered the challenging tasks and was able to secure himself an outstanding 8th place. Alexander Wagner was accompanied and supported by the two W&H instructors Matthias Hufnagl and Stefan Rausch as well as his family.

W&H Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Peter Malata said: “We are truly delighted by Alexander’s success. It confirms not only the high level of our training concept, but also the readiness and expertise of the younger generation.”

W&H’s next generation of specialists demonstrate expertise at championship level

In mid-August, Anhembi Parque, one of the largest convention centres in the whole of Latin America, was taken over by an atmosphere of charged emotions and deep concentration as contestants from all over the world came together to demonstrate their abilities in a total of 50 vocational careers at the WorldSkills tournament. As Austria’s no. 1 CNC machine operator, 22-year-old Alexander Wagner took part in the competition in the “CNC machining” discipline. Throughout his intensive preparatory training, he had received optimal professional and organizational support from his employer, W&H, and thus set off for the championship perfectly prepared.

The task was to produce a precision component based on a technical drawing on each of the competition days. Of course, it goes without saying that the competitors themselves were responsible for determining the intersection points (transition radii on the piece), programming the CNC machine and selecting the tools required for the processing. Throughout the entire contest, the contestants were also required to comply with strict national safety regulations. W&H employee Alexander Wagner mastered even the most complex tasks with great ambition and was able to hold his own against strong competition from Europe and Asia. In addition to extraordinary expertise and outstanding precision, the young Austrian also impressed the judges with his speed. His excellent performance was rewarded with 8th place by an international jury featuring members from both industry and business.

Wagner puts the standard of training at W&H to the test

Alexander Wagner first took second place in the Austrian vocational championships back in 2012. His sensational success came two years later when he took the first place in the “CNC machining” category and was crowned Austrian champion. In doing so, he not only demonstrated extraordinary talent in the field of machining, but also raised awareness of the high standard of training in the company. Mr Wagner successfully completed his machining apprenticeship at W&H in February 2013 and now works in the internationally renowned dental manufacturer’s state-of-the-art industrial production department.

As part of his intensive preparations for the WorldSkills competition in São Paulo, he completed numerous training modules at W&H headquarters in Bürmoos and attended courses in Munich and Frankfurt. In addition, he was also assisted in his preparations by the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO).

Participating in this year’s WorldSkills championships allowed the W&H employee to showcase his professional expertise on the world stage. “We place high demands on our employees. Communication of state-of-the-art technological know-how and networked thinking in the mechanical and program-related production of precision components is always in focus right from the beginning of the training,” said W&H Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Peter Malata. “Alexander Wagner is impressive proof of the fact that training at W&H is up to the highest international standards.”
