First place in the “Innovation” category

W&H impressed the judges in the “Innovation” category with the world introduction of new and unique drive and lighting technology for dental turbines. The patented system opens up completely new horizons for dentists interested in offering minimally invasive, precise and atraumatic dental treatment. The new W&H technology is a great leap forward in modern dentistry and it has therefore been awarded first prize by a highly qualified panel of judges.

Once again advanced projects of domestic companies were in the limelight at this year’s award of the Salzburg Business Prize. This prestigious prize is awarded by the state of Salzburg (Land Salzburg) and the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce (Salzburger Wirtschaftskammer). The three best submissions in each of four categories were selected and awarded prizes. W&H, with its world first in the field of air-driven high-speed dental preparation, was selected as the best of 35 submissions in the “Innovation” category. W&H Managing Director Dipl.-Ing. Peter Malata, Dr Wilhelm Brugger of the Research and Development Management Team and other members of the W&H Development Team in Bürmoos were there to receive the award for first place.

Greater safety in dental treatment

With the development of a new drive technology for dental turbine handpieces the family company, based in Bürmoos, is the first in the world to provide an innovative solution with very advanced and extended options for dental restoration and prosthetics. The handpieces are also the first to offer 100% shadow-free illumination of the treatment site with the ring-shaped LEDs on the small turbine head. Dentists will find their work easier during preparation in all treatment situations with the additional safety provided through optimal illumination of the oral cavity by the LEDs.

“The primary problem that dentists have during treatment using dental turbines is poor control of the preparation speed and poor illumination of the treatment site,” says Dr Wilhelm Brugger. “The unique combination of air drive and electronic control – in contrast to the classical turbine handpieces – gives our Primea Advanced Air System adjustable, fully automatically controlled preparation conditions perfectly adapted to the treatment situation, such as are always required for intensive removal of substance or delicate finishing work. This unique combination of functions offers dentists the best possible treatment conditions at all times.”

Dipl.-Ing. Peter Malata was particularly pleased with the award: “The Salzburg Business Prize is very important for Salzburg as a business centre. As the only Austrian manufacturer of dental technology we are proud to be able to prove our ability to innovate with our new technology."
