Hands-on: insights into present-day piezo surgery
A 2-day W&H workshop which was held in Bürmoos near Salzburg from 22 – 23 June 2016 focused on the latest piezo surgical techniques. Around 20 dentists from Romania and a large number of representatives from W&H’s Romanian partner S.I.T.E.A. ROMÂNIA S.R.L. seized the opportunity to familiarize themselves with present-day conservative methods in piezo surgery by attending an exciting array of presentations and using training units at the W&H headquarters in Burmoos. Alongside W&H Area Manager Roland Wichmann, the event was hosted by the Romanian medical technology supplier S.I.T.E.A. ROMÂNIA S.R.L..
Valuable tips from renowned users
Under the specialist supervision of Professor Dr. Dr. Emanuel Bratu and Dr. Sorin Mihali, both acknowledged maxillofacial surgeons, oral surgeons and prosthodontists from Romania, the participants were given insights into the latest methods in the field of sinus surgery.
In addition to presentations, based on their own research and many years of clinical experience, Professor Bratu and Dr. Mihali used live demonstrations to provide the dentists with valuable clinical knowledge, which the participants could use themselves straight away by practising with W&H’s Piezomed surgical unit on pig jaws and ribs plus sheep heads. It was possible to train, not only in innovative working methods, but also in easy and efficient handling of the Piezomed, which provides surgeons with optimum support even during the most demanding procedures.
During the event, further attention was dedicated to onlay and inlay procedures, bone splitting, bone block harvesting, sinus lift and prosthetic crown extension. The extraction of root-treated teeth in particular is becoming increasingly relevant in current piezo surgical procedures – the pros and cons of using piezo surgery were discussed jointly in the plenary session.
Insights into a cutting-edge industrial company
Along with detailed theoretical and practical inputs in the field of piezo surgery, the workshop provided extensive insights into the W&H company itself. During a factory visit, the Romanian guests were given an understanding of both the product portfolio and also cutting-edge manufacturing.
It was possible to continue sharing experiences while spending the evenings together – in the Hohensalzburg Fortress, among other places. In addition to in-depth discussions, there was sufficient space here to maintain and expand personal networks.
