This one day ‘hands on’ journey, presented by Nick Claydon, introduces you to piezo technology.

You will learn the techniques that can be adapted and applied to general and specialist dental practice for the benefit of your patients and team alike.


This one day course aims to:

  • Introduce participants to Piezo technology
  • Discuss the benefits of Piezo technology versus conventional alternatives
  • Explore the applications of Piezo surgery
  • Introduce participants to supporting literature and a network of contacts

  • Learn how to set up and operate a modern Piezo unit
  • Learn the techniques required to use Piezo technology effectively using eggs
  • Learn the different applications of Piezo surgery using a pig head
  • Understand the applications of Piezo surgery for the benefit of your patients

An Introduction to Dr Nick Claydon

Nick Claydon graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1986, subsequently attaining his MScD in Periodontal research at the University of Wales and his PhD from the University of Bristol entitled, “Development and Application of Methods to Study Plaque Control by Dental Health products”. Nick is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was accredited as a specialist in Periodontics by the General Dental Council in 2000. He is currently a Clinical Research Fellow and Lecturer at Bristol and Cardiff Dental Schools. His research interests include developing research methodologies, periodontal conditions, bone augmentation and peri-implant lesions, the scientific evaluation of oral health care products, tooth wear, dentine hypersensitivity and tooth whitening. He has conducted more than 50 clinical research studies and has published over 30 papers in peer reviewed journals in these fields of interest. Nick lectures nationally and is a nominated reviewer for high impact dental journals.

Having founded a thriving dental practice in Cardiff in 1997, Nick established his state of the art dental practice at The Pines in Whitchurch, Cardiff (www.rhiwbinadental.co.uk ) in 2009. He has developed a national reputation for aesthetic treatment of complex restorative cases involving periodontal, implant and prosthodontic treatment. A particular sphere of interest includes the management of peri-implantitis lesions. Nick’s innovative approach to dentistry has led to the adoption and implementation of cutting edge technologies such as digital ceramic restorations.

Nick lectures widely on his research and practice concepts. He contributes to the periodontology, bone augmentation and peri-implantitis programmes in the Bristol and Cardiff Dental School Masters degrees for Periodontology and Implantology, as well as lecturing on the undergraduate dental course on Restorative dentistry.

He is chair of the General Practitioners section of the British Society of Periodontology (www.bsperio.uk), a member of the Association of Dental Implantology (www.adi.org.uk), a member of the International Team of Implantology (www.iti.org/) and is a Fellow of the Higher Academy of Education (www.heacademy.ac.uk). Nick utilises his valuable teaching experience as mentor both within and external to the Practice Group, managing complex restorative, periodontal and implant cases for dentists. His practice is accredited by the Department of Postgraduate Dentistry in Cardiff (www.cardiff.ac.uk).
